This is a brief history of my restoration & competition of my mini.
HSX 192 1963 Morris 850, one lady owner from new 76,000 miles. In January 1995 I purchased the 850 for $150 & drove it 35 miles home at 35mph, & started the restoration of the 850 into one of the least famous works mini's GRX 310D. After the first 12 months of work I had restored the body & re-built the engine (twice). The 850 was finished in time to do the 1996 Great Northern Mini Tour. In the 1996 Mini Club Championship ran in three events placing 58th outright & 2nd in the 1000cc Class. I competed in the Arthur's Seat Historic Hill Climb, placing 89th outright & 9th in the 3000cc Group N Class. I was awarded the 'Best Cared For Car' by Shannon's. In the 1997 Mini Club Championship ran in seven events placing 4th outright, 1st in the 1000cc Class & 1st in the Autocross Championship. In 1998 the mini spent six months off the road. I had transformed the mild tempered Morris 850 into a 1330cc beast. I ran for the second time at Arthur's Seat Historic Hill Climb in 1998, placing 19th outright & 3th in the 3000cc Group N Class. In the 1999 Mini Club Championship ran in twenty two events placing 1st outright, 1st in the 1275-1330cc Class, 1st in the Autocross Championship & 2nd in Motorkahana Championship. |
